Electronics
Parallel to Serial Converter
to the TurboMatcher 4

1. On top of the converter are a series of small switches. Note that they are labeled: “1”-”8”. Also note the markings: “off”, and “on”. Using a pointed object such as a pencil, set the switches as follows:
switch setting
1 ON
2 ON
3 OFF
4 ON
5 OFF
6 OFF
7 OFF
8 ON
2. Connect cables as shown in the picture above. Connect the free end of the smaller PC serial cable to your PC’s RS-232 serial port. Connect the free end of the larger parallel cable to the TurboMatcher’s parallel output connector. This is on the left-hand side of the TurboMatcher. If you are using a print multiplexer, substitute a standard PC printer cable for the 25 pin parallel cable shown in the picture above. Connect the printer cable to the multiplexer’s output. See the TurboLabel manual, available from our website (www.CompetitionElectronics.com), for further details. The cables and adapter shown are available from any Radio Shack store, or from their web site (www.RadioShack.com). The Radio Shack part numbers are as follows:
IEEE 1284 A-A MALE to MALE Cable #26-233
Female DB9 to Male DB25 Serial Port adapter #26-209B
6 ft. Serial RS-2432C Cable Male DB9 to Female DB9 #26-117
3. In case you can’t establish communication, unplug both ends of the Parallel to Serial adapter and reconnect them, connecting the PC side of the adapter first.
